What Snoei sends, fetches and keeps

In short: the address you give goes to our server. It fetches what the tool needs (usually that one page, sometimes more: exactly what is listed below) and sends you the result. Nothing is kept. No account, no tracking, no ads.

What your browser sends us

The web address you give and, for some tools, a choice such as a CSS selector or a list of addresses. Nothing more: no files, no name, no email address.

What our server fetches, per tool

Always as HandigSnoei, without cookies, without logging in and without passing on who you are. For every site it contacts it first reads the robots.txt, and it follows at most five redirects. Nothing it fetches is kept after the answer.

  • Table, links, images, SEO, share preview, RSS and structured data: only the one page you give.
  • Headers: of that page only the answer with its headers; it does not read the content.
  • robots.txt: only that site’s robots.txt file.
  • Sitemap: the sitemap file you give. Give a site instead and it looks in robots.txt and at the usual places, up to three files. It opens a child sitemap only when you click it.
  • Dead links: the page, then every link on it, up to 100, and the robots.txt of every site those links go to. Per link first only the answer, and when a server refuses that, the page without reading it.
  • Redirects: every address in your list, up to 20, and every step until it ends. Only the answers, no content.
  • Hreflang: the page and then every language version it names, up to 10, to see whether it links back.
  • The server never fetches the images themselves.

What we remember for a short time

So as not to overload sites or our service, the server briefly counts how many requests come from one visitor. For that it keeps a salted hash of your IP address (a code your address can not be recovered from), for ten minutes, only in that server’s memory. It also keeps sites’ robots.txt files for ten minutes, and a feed it made for an hour.

What we do not do

We keep no log of the addresses you give and store no results. No tracking cookies, no ads, no resale. We never collect email addresses or phone numbers from the pages Snoei reads.

Images from other sites

In the image and share preview tools you can choose to see previews. Your own browser then fetches those images straight from the site, without passing on which page you come from. If you do not, your browser does not contact that site.

What your browser remembers

Only your preferences: light or dark, your language and the Reading comfort settings. Downloads are made in your own browser.

Technical logs of the host

Our host (Vercel, servers in Frankfurt) keeps, like every web server, short technical logs such as IP address, time and the requested web address, to run the site safely. With the tools your address is in the body of the request, not in the web address, so not in those logs. The RSS feed is the exception: a feed is an ordinary web address (/api/feed?url=…) that your feed reader requests regularly, so there the page does appear in those logs and for up to an hour in the network’s cache. We do not use those logs to follow visitors.
